Regardless, it is March, and plants are starting to bloom. Going with nature, we decided to set up our lower deck for the season. Despite the overcast weather, it was exciting to see this part of Spring come to our house. Here's to the start of many deck days ahead...

Midwest Isn't Always Best
Midwest isn't always the best.... because of the weather. I love living in the Midwest, primarily for the benefit of having all four seasons. Each one is just as distinct as the next. A downside of the Midwest is not knowing when each season is truly going to stop or begin. Like this week. It has been fairly nice outside, but it appears as though a freeze may be coming.
Regardless, it is March, and plants are starting to bloom. Going with nature, we decided to set up our lower deck for the season. Despite the overcast weather, it was exciting to see this part of Spring come to our house. Here's to the start of many deck days ahead...

Privacy Fence
YOU GUYS. I thought my happiness couldn't get any greater after Z jack hammered the concrete obstrocity. Apparently it was possible to get greater!
Z designed and built a horizontal fence and gate that faced out to the main street where our house faces. Since we are the second house from the street and our neighbors do not have a fence up, we were lacking privacy in our backyard. Each time we were outside, it was not uncommon for someone on the street which our yard faced, to be looking at what we were up to next, or bluntly asking what we were up to. At the same time, they also gave compliments which was very sweet. But, we were craving a bit more privacy in our backyard without feeling like we were on the "Truman Show."
I was out of town this past weekend, but Z and his mom assembled this part of the fence! It looks SO good. I was so impressed with the work that was put into it! The only thing that I helped out with was gathering lumber at Home Depot and helping to space some wood pieces. Not nearly as much as they did.
I already am pinning ideas of what I may want to plant next year, picking out some hostas, and looking at ideas now that the fence is up!

HANGING BRACKETS FOR BASKETS
Although this is the last night of my summer break, I still have a few projects that I hope to accomplish in the upcoming weeks... finishing painting our bed platform, organizing closets, touching up our bedroom and bathroom paint.I was hoping to have finished them over break, but sometimes, you just need some rest and relaxation!

Anxious About Spring
I don't know about you all, but I am anxious for Spring. I love all of the distinctive seasons in the Midwest, but I am craving Spring. I find myself thinking this at about this time every year. I'm anxious to start planting in our yard, growing vegetables, and hanging out in our yard.
To help combat my anxiousness of Spring, I looked at outside patio furniture and accessories. Here is what I was eyeballing and checking out. Hopefully my online shopping and wishing will bring spring here a little bit sooner! What are you most looking forward to this Spring?

Happy Holidays at Home
As corny as it sounds, I had wished for a white Christmas with this being the first Christmas in our home and it looks like my wish has come true! It snowed a few days ago, but temperatures have been cold enough to keep it around for a while! Lovely!
Now that the major crunch time is finished for me, I will hopefully be updating more frequently! I am planning on updating in the upcoming days, if not tomorrow! As I looked through the blog, I was disappointed on my part that I hadn't updated it with some of the most exciting updates! From our guest bedroom to our kitchen to dining room to the upstairs bedroom... lots has been done! I can't wait to update you all with these things!
In the meantime, happy holidays to each of you and your loved ones! However you choose to spend the next few days, I hope you do things that fill you with happiness! I'm certainly looking forward to a quiet and peaceful day in our home especially since it's the first one in our home!

P.S. - As I was admiring my friend, Michelle's blog this evening, I noticed that she added this blog to her faves for home interiors. She's too sweet. She's an outstanding blogger, fashionista, illustrator and friend. If you haven't already checked out Creature Type, do so this holiday season!

Really a Recap
This is what I wanted to touch base on during that initial post:

Backyard Update
The backyard was supposed to have been a work in progress next year. However, we couldn't resist and started a few projects. Better to start now because in a few months, projects will be limited to indoors.

It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint can and will do to a place.

Guest Bedroom Update
I have a confession. I love estate sales, garage sales, First Friday sales. Love them all. You never know what you'll find and what price you'll find it at. The excitement of possibility lurks around every corner. One morning in the last few months that Z was driving to work and out of our neighborhood, he noticed there was an estate sale on a neighboring street to us. He called me to tell me about it, so I decided to check it out. I walked out with a nice dresser from this sale. It was painted a whimsical/shabby pea green color. Within seconds of setting eyes on it, I was picturing it in a rich coral color and in our guest bedroom. Fast forward months to where it is now; completed and in our guest bedroom. Here's a quick insight into it. I am saving a fully dedicated guest bedroom post until the room is officially complete, cleaned, and things finished up a bit more.
Z skillfully found a way to hang the drawer pulls that I was spray painting. |
Spray painted in a silver metallic. (MUCH cheaper than purchasing new knobs and pulls for the whole piece!) |
Knobs painted and installed on dresser. |
Drawer pulls painted and installed. |

Home away from home. My classroom and beloved SMART Board. |
And, again, some selfish promotion for my graduate school portfolio.
Well, that is a glimpse into a few of the things that we have been working on! Once the guest bedroom is cleaned and finished, I will be posting photos of it! Very excited to share them! In the upcoming months, I'm really looking forward to Fall (boots, chiminea fires, pumpkins...), trying to plan a trip to STL for a weekend in the upcoming months, and starting new traditions in our home. What are you looking forward to in the upcoming Fall months?

Outside Surprise
So, as it is apparent in many house projects, some are planned and some are more of a spur of the moment thing. This one is a mix of both.
This summer and spring, we focused outdoors on the front yard and decided to wait until next year to tackle the back yard. But, things change, and we decided to do one thing.... Which turned into 5 things!
I'll post before / after pics soon, but until then, here's a tease....
Enjoy!
